Surgical Leadership Institute: Empowering the Next Generation of Colorectal Surgery Leaders

This intensive weekend course is designed for early career colorectal surgeons (3–7 years post-training) seeking to elevate their leadership potential in both clinical and organizational settings. Through a highly interactive curriculum that blends introspective self-discovery with practical business and communication strategies, participants will explore how to lead with authenticity, influence without authority, and drive innovation within their institutions.

Sessions are enriched with wellness elements, real-world testimonials, and family-centered perspectives, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainable leadership. 
Target Audience: Surgeons seeking to lead departments, champion initiatives, collaborate effectively across teams, or transition into influential administrative or advocacy roles. 
Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to: 

  • Identify personal leadership styles using validated personality and strengths assessments, and apply those insights to career planning and professional branding. 
  • Develop foundational business acumen, including how to draft and assess a surgical practice business plan within private and hospital settings. 
  • Enhance team communication and collaboration using evidence-based strategies and scenario-based exercises. 
  • Navigate conflict effectively and apply negotiation techniques in clinical and administrative environments. 
  • Understand the value of strategic industry engagement including funding, research support, and educational partnerships. 
  • Create an individualized leadership development plan outlining short- and long-term steps for impact and sustainability in surgery.

Non-Members: $625 per person

Registration Cancellation Policy:

July 1 - August 31 cancellations will incur a $50 Cancellation Fee with 50% reimbursement.

After September 1 cancellations will incur no reimbursement.
